Training Software

Intervals.icu — Grind With Rick Training Finding the Right Training Software Intervals.icu · A training planning game-changer TL;DR I've tried several training platforms. Intervals.icu offers the best balance of training load visualization, custom planning, and calendar integration for serious endurance athletes building toward a 50k goal. The Search for the Right Tool I've dabbled in training software before — mainly with Strava Premium for its fatigue charts, and then I tried Training Peaks which felt too involved for what I needed. But I was still looking for something that could give me clarity on how my training is progressing, especially as I started building toward my 50k goal. Recently I found a new software called Intervals.icu, and it's fantastic. The platform struck the right balance ...

Protein...but what kind?

Not All Protein is Created Equal — Grind With Rick Nutrition Not All Protein is Created Equal The label says 30g. · But 30g of what, exactly? TL;DR Protein grams on a label measure quantity, not quality. The amino acid profile — especially the 9 your body can't make — is what actually matters for building muscle. The Number That Doesn't Tell You Much I've been logging my macros pretty seriously since kicking off this 50K training block. Hit my protein goal most days. But I started wondering — does 30g from Greek yogurt actually do the same job as 30g from a chicken breast? The short answer is no. The slightly longer answer is why. The "protein" number on a nutrition label is basically just a measure of how much nitrogen is in the food. That's it. Nitrogen-containing molecules = protei...

All the data

Image
In college, I studied physics. I've always loved science and data, so naturally, once I started getting my weight under control, I put those skills to work. For the next couple of weeks, I'll be recording my weight daily along with a waist measurement for body fat estimation (using the Navy Method). I'm tracking everything in a Google Sheet with a running 7-day average. I've already been collecting data for a bit, but I'm a fan of meaningful start dates — so I'm making May 1st my official reference point.

40 weeks. 50K. Lets get to work!

Today I'm kicking off a 40-week training block. I'll be training for the Clearwater 50K !

Gearing up for my first 50k

Ok lets get this blog actually started. Starting May 1st, the plan is to lock-in and start my next training block. I have 3 goals in mind. Cut fat and get swoliosis Train for my first ultramarathon - 50km in January. Run Florida from coast to coast I'll be starting around 162 lbs and ~17-18% body fat. I'm aiming to get down to something like 150 lbs and closer to 12-14%.  The race I think I'll be prepping for is a road race -  RunClearwater: Marathon, Ultra, Half, 5k ! And during training, I want to section run Florida from coast to coast:  Trail Status & Segments – C2C Trail This blog will serve as a spot to practice writing and to keep my motivation high. Once I get into a rhythm, I hope to turn this blog into something more interesting for others.
