Training Software
Finding the Right Training Software
I've tried several training platforms. Intervals.icu offers the best balance of training load visualization, custom planning, and calendar integration for serious endurance athletes building toward a 50k goal.
The Search for the Right Tool
I've dabbled in training software before — mainly with Strava Premium for its fatigue charts, and then I tried Training Peaks which felt too involved for what I needed. But I was still looking for something that could give me clarity on how my training is progressing, especially as I started building toward my 50k goal.
Recently I found a new software called Intervals.icu, and it's fantastic. The platform struck the right balance between powerful features and intuitive usability.
Building a Custom Training Plan
One of my favorite features is the ability to build a completely custom training plan. I created a structured plan specifically for my upcoming 50k, with phases that progress from base building through peak training. The interface makes it straightforward to adjust workouts on the fly if needed.
What sets it apart is how the platform handles visualization. You can see your training load both week-to-week and over longer periods, so you're never flying blind about whether you're on track or overreaching.
Key Features That Matter
See how your training stress evolves over time. The charts make it easy to spot patterns and ensure your progression is sensible.
All your workouts in one visual calendar. No more hunting through tabs or apps to find what you're supposed to do today.
Build plans that actually reflect your goals and constraints. Not a generic template — your 50k, your schedule, your training.
The Training Plan in Action
Here's what the platform looks like in practice — my custom 50k training plan with all the phases laid out. You can see the progression, adjust individual workouts, and track how your overall load is tracking against your target.
